Ode to Linen

Ode to Linen is a research project exploring the material’s process, history and value.

Today, linen is mostly appreciated as a niche material, while it ranks among the most sustainable fabrics. Featuring a rich history of traditions, linen used to be much appreciated for its symbolical values. Nowadays, symbolism and traditions aren’t as prevalent anymore, and so linen has lost its poetic value. Could we add poetic value again, as a tool to create more attraction towards a material?

Ode to Linen is bundled in a booklet explaining this process of lost and added value. The project results in a handwoven “Poetic Piece”, expressing my interpretation of the poetic value of linen.
